The Art of Nude by JW Purdy Episode 36 - Model shoot – Girls in garages

www.jwpurdy.com/the-art-of-nude

In today’s episode we will be exploring a shot concept centered around one of Jim Morrison’s poems. In the poem Angels and Sailors Jim uses the phrase, “Girls in garages, stripped” and for some reasons this line has always stayed with me. As with a lot of Jim’s work I find a way weave it into my life some how. I found the Doors when I was still in elementary school and Jims voice has been echoing in my head every since the sound of his voice passed through my ears.

Thank you,

JW Purdy

The Art of Nude by JW Purdy Episode 35 - Model shoot – Difficulties with...

Sometime things just don’t work out as I plan during a
shoot. This is an example of a failed idea. I made the best of the situation
but really in the end I chose the wrong pose for the models body type.

The Art of Nude by JW Purdy Episode 34 - Model shoot – Small light adjus...

www.jwpurdy.com/the-art-of-nude

In this episode we will be shooting with a one light setup. The light is positioned at a 45-degree angle to the model and a shoot-thru umbrella has been used to soften the source. After the first shot I noticed a harder than desired shadow was being cast on the wall behind the model. To reduce this shadows effect I raised the light to a higher position causing the shadow to fall more on the floor than the wall.

Thanks,

The Art of Nude by JW Purdy Episode 33 - Model shoot – Special guest Lea...

www.jwpurdy.com/the-art-of-nude

Tonight we had the chance to work with the wonderfully
talented Leah Velocity. I have wanted to work with Leah for a few years but
kept getting side tracked at the wrong times. Leah contacted me a few weeks ago
to let me know she would be in town and I made sure it would work for us. It
got a little dicey at the end due to a party we were having but Leah agreed to
meet us for a late shoot and it was great. She is an awesome person and I’m so
glad I was able to meet and work with her. If you ever get a chance I highly
recommend working with her.

Nearing the end of our set I asked Leah if you would mind
working with Shannon for the “My Nude Year” project and she agreed. Both of the
models didn’t know each other so it must have been very uncomfortable having to
be in such close proximate while staring each other in the eye. A few rounds of
laughter broke out before we had the shot. It was a great opportunity and I’m
so happy she let me record it for this episode.

Thanks,
