Tonight our lighting setup was slightly more complex than normal. We don't have a light boom so when we need overhead light a ladder and a bungee cord do the trick. Well, and a counterbalance weight to keep it all from tipping over. So we set up Shannon's third idea, a fun and different way to shoot. The lighting for this photo is very similar to the lighting for Shannon's first studio shoot so many years ago. For that shoot, we used an overhead softbox which creates a softer light that wraps around a model's curves while tonight we just used a grid in which the light fall-off is more abrupt and makes a hard line between light and shadow. This makes for a very dramatic photo set similar to the side lighting we used on a prior day.
