My Second Nude Year Day 23

 Day 23

Tonight we visited a game that has been played for centuries. I have loved chess since I was in mid-school. I used to play with my dad who was one of the best players I have ever seen. At my first job after moving to the Houston area, we at times had a lot of downtime and would play chess to pass the day away without going crazy. One of the guys I had gone to college with was an incredible player. He had study all the openings and the Queen's Gambit was one of his favorites. It seems funny to me that now there is a very popular series called by the name of that loved opening of his. I have watched the show and enjoyed it. I have read online that it has caused a big surge of interest for the game again and chessboards are flying off of the shelves.

As my three college friends started to move on from our first real job after graduation I was left with the chessboard. This board and its pieces are very plain but it holds a special place in my heart. It served as a way to pass the time with some people I shared much of my early adulthood with. After all of our college years and then a few more playing chess in our downtime, we would go our separate ways across the county. I was the only one that stayed behind. All three ended up on the east coast for a while. One moved back to our college town after accepting a truly once in a lifetime job. The other two are still in the Eastern Time zone and doing well.
